Peek-a-Boo from Undergrowth Design

11th May, 2012

Quirky contemporary design brand Undergrowth Design has created the perfect way to tell an absent loved one that you miss them…

The new Peek-a-Boo Collection was designed to evoke feelings of separation and good wishes and features a gorgeous unique teacup and saucer – available in Black or Gold – with two dolls on each side peeking round the corner at each other, while the graphics on the saucer depict the two sides of a mountain.

These extraordinary pieces represent the feeling that a loved one may be out of sight, but that they are never out of mind and that nice thoughts can be sent to each other like butterflies in the wind.

Inspired by the obscure and uncanny in life Tina Tsang, the designer behind Undergrowth Design, aims to breathe life into everyday objects. Her design intention is to enthrall the user and give a sense of other worldliness to everyday life.

Table and glassware from Undergrowth Design is available to buy in The Boutique at La Maison Couture…

Our covetable stoneware of the moment in the La Maison Couture Tea Room is the perfectly pretty Fleur de Lys Collection from the fabulous lifestyle boutique Anthropologie. This beautiful collection would add a wonderfully vintage accent to a summer garden party or a delightfully feminine touch to afternoon tea.

Anthropologie offers a one-of-a-kind and compelling shopping experience that intends to make women feel beautiful, hopeful and connected. They opened their first shop in Wayne, Pennsylvania in 1992 and since then have grown a hundredfold and continue to create beautiful pieces featuring clever details and fine craftsmanship.

Unique Christmas Gift Ideas from The New English

16th November, 2011

We love the idea of giving quirky or truly unique gifts at Christmas and the extraordinary Lepidoptera Collection from cutting edge ceramic design company The New English would certainly conform.

This astonishing limited edition range was designed for The New English by Maxim, the energetic powerhouse and lead singer of “The Prodigy” and is based on imagery drawn from his wonderful paintings. This distinctive collection combines the delicacy and strength of the species and is already gaining widespread recognition as a uniquely collectable range.

A wonderfully idiosyncratic gift idea not only for collectors, but also, undoubtedly, for fans of The Prodigy.

Maison et Objet – Sept 09 Review

15th September, 2009

Fresh back from the Maison et Objet Paris Fair last week, the highlights of which, were all about table decoration and the Art of Dining for us this time. We picked up some fabulous new porcelain and crystal brands which we can’t wait to feature on the site… beautiful tableware from Mathilde Carron and Jean Baptiste from the hugely talented Astier de Villatte family, gorgeous crystal glassware from Theresenthial and the finest eggshell porcelain by Piet Stockmans…coming soon…!

But, we also saw some equally stunning collections from a few brand names who we are unable to feature on the site as yet, but who we would still like to mention…

Richard Ginori

A definite favourite was this presentation of pure white, elaborately ornate centrepieces and candelabras wrapped in wire mesh which looked absolutely stunning, and proved perfectly, how creative presentation is everything and can turn old into new to make a thoroughly modern statement.

Richard Ginori - Figurines Sept 09

The same can be said for this exquisite collection of porcelain figurines (a modern trend for which seems to be emerging… as depicted in the extraordinary half man, half beast figures from Marre Moerel) displayed under glass like works of art and raised on a bronze podium.

Dibbern

Our favourite patterns from German based fine bone china manufacturers, Dibbern, were the gorgeous mix and match metallic on white ranges, Black and Golden Forest with Gold leaf and Golden Pearls, reminding us of one of our best loved contemporary brands Bodo Sperlein, who were launching at Maison their new collection for London restaurant Yauatcha.

Hering Berlin and JL Coquet were also on our luxury tableware wishlist along with Jacques Pergay and the exquisitely fine porcelain collection designed by Roos Van de Welde for Serax which made its first debut at Maison et Objet this month…

Astier de Villatte

In 1996 the Astier de Villatte siblings mastered a special technique their artist father had taught them, the ability to create a unique and delicate milky glazed finish to beautifully handcrafted porcelain and earthenware. The result is an exquisite collection of porcelain pieces that look as though they have walked out of a 17th century picture book. Playful, romantic, poetic, earthy yet ethereal, irregular yet somehow perfect, each capturing fragments of the past and the imagination. Since then, they have secured themselves a well deserved spot on the ‘what’s hot’ list of design loving ‘savants’ and stylish followers around the globe.

I am delighted that we are now able to buy Astier de Villatte online at Liberty and have featured a selection of our favourite pieces in The Tearoom at La Maison Couture.

Watch out for the new individual collections of Mathilde Carron and Regards by Jean Baptiste, both of which I fell in love with at the Paris fair in January…
