The Haviland story goes, that when asked to replace a broken cup of a rare quality that Haviland had never seen, David decided to go to France and seek out the origins of this fine china to import to America. His mission led him to Limoges where he discovered the secret of Kaolin, a pure white clay in plentiful supply that would produce the purest, finest porcelain and the rest is history...
