“It’s estimated there are 44.75 million small-scale miners globally working in variable conditions, including poor and toxic working environments, low pay, and child labour. Acutely aware of these negative impacts, La Maison Couture is wholly committed to creating positive change in the jewellery industry.”

The purpose of our impact page is to communicate what we and our brand stakeholders are doing to mitigate the sustainability challenges faced by the jewellery industry.

Here are some of LMC’s key highlights from our 2024 Sustainability Report.

Responsible Sourcing:

Responsible sourcing is fundamental to our LMC business model, reflecting our commitment to sustainable brands and minimising environmental impact. We require suppliers, including pearl farming partners, to adopt sustainable practices and safeguard marine ecosystems.
75% of our brands use responsible sourcing practices

Ethical Production:

Ethical production prioritises fair treatment of workers and safe conditions, utilising fair trade or fairmined gold, adhering to best practices in jewellery making, and ensuring secure, non-toxic environments for miners and workers.
31% of LMC brands use Fair Trade and/or
Fairmined materials

Artisanal Collaboration:

We collaborate with brands that engage artisans, employing time-honored techniques and ancient methods deeply rooted in tradition. These partnerships seek to honour and preserve local art, heritage, and culture, ensuring their continuity for future generations.
At least 25% of our brands support artisanal collaboration.

Circular & Regenerative:

We reinforce our sustainability commitment through the promotion of circular business models, including end-of-life strategies and buy-back schemes. With over 70 brands, we advocate for circular and regenerative production, prioritising concepts such as buy-back, repair, and repurpose to reinforce our commitment to these principles.
66% of LMC brands use recycled and/or upcycled materials in their collections.

Sustainable Development Goals:

In 2015, the United Nations established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), comprising 17 objectives as a universal call to action to eradicate poverty, preserve the planet, and guarantee peace and prosperity for all by 2030.

SDGs 5(Gender Equality), 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production) & 15 (Life On Land) are just some of the examples where LMC are united in our mission to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Positive Impact:

Our brands foster positive change by creating jobs, education, and empowering communities, particularly women, through jewellery making. LMC and Tomasz Donocik London launched the ‘Busia Collection‘ to highlight gold mining’s impact on small-scale communities. Proceeds donated to Earthbeat Foundation will support Earthbeat’s beekeeping projects, providing jobs and environmental protection to mining areas.

Our Impact Going Forward…

Introduction of our Zero Extraction Policy by 2030

Continued extraction of virgin raw materials results in further depletion of raw materials and damage to natural landscapes. By 2030, or earlier, we aim to achieve 100% of LMC brands using recycled/upcycled materials and metals in all collections.

Potential partnerships with re-sell jewellery platforms, embracing end-of-life strategies and innovative buy-back schemes

At LMC we champion a take-make-replace attitude to business. In order to achieve our own sustainability goals we need to ensure our brands are considering their own waste management and end-of life strategies.

Our brands increased use of recycled/upcycled materials

Circular and regenerative production and consumption principles are the way forward for the industry and the planet. Introducing more of these business concepts as a priority will help reinforce this philosophy at LMC.

Elimination of plastic packaging for all stakeholders by 2025

All LMC packaging is recycled and recyclable and we actively encourage all brand stakeholders to eliminate plastic packaging by 2025.

Our ongoing collaboration with Earthbeat Foundation

This is LMC’s opportunity to “give back” and have a direct impact on positively impacting and helping to repair the damages of the past and preserve the future of the industry.

Community Partnerships

For brands that need the guidance, LMC to educate brands on our selection criteria and support them in achieving our 5 assessment goals
