Alighieri Jewellery by Rosh Mahtani. We are inspired and thrilled to discover this poetic jewellery collection at London Fashion Week in February and cannot wait to feature it on the site!

Dante Alighieri jewellery is handmade in London by the lovely Rosh Mahtani and is wholly based on Dante Alighieri’s “divine comedy” in particular. We were fascinated that Rosh studied French and Italian literature at Oxford University and was inspired by the literature she had studied to create a jewellery line solely based on Dante’s poetry.

Each of her exquisite pieces is created through the process of lost wax casting, made from 24kt gold plated bronze and sterling silver. It tells its own story…

As the pilgrim journeys through the realms of Hell, Purgarory and Paradise, he encounters mythical creatures, scraggy landscapes and terrifying demons which make passionate mistakes. Inspired by his Odyssey, Rosh imagines these characters in gold, wrapped around her neck and weaving their way through her fingers as she reads…

Upon entering the mountain of Purgatory, Dante is ready to “leave behind the cruel sea”, for better waters.All things are lighter, sweeter, and he calls upon Calliope, the Muse of poetry to accompany him on his journey.
The Fresh Water Peanut Pearls represent the dewy wander of these new sights, appearing with the glimmer of the sun’s golden rays.

In the second circle of the Inferno, Dante meets the lustful lovers, Paolo and Francesca,
They fall in love over literature, but whilst passionate and beautiful, their love affair on earth proves perilous, condemning them to an eternity in the infernal storm.
The imperfection of this Drusy stone represent their turbulent affair – it is glimmering and enticing, whilst at the same time dangerous and dark.

Dante voyages through the realms of the after world, using Homer’s Odysseus and Virgil’s Aneas as inspirations.
This is a piece of is odyssey; take it with you on your travels, as an emblem to show that the best journeys are often those that are fragmented, those that do not go to plan.
